Projects in Afghanistan
To help alleviate the sufferings of people of brotherly country, the Government of Pakistan approved $ 300 million as part of reconstruction and rehabilitation programme of war-torn country. NLC was awarded projects in the health and education sectors. The execution of these projects in the difficult environment of Afghanistan was a test of the professionalism and commitment of NLC engineers who had to brave challenges like serious security issues, non availability of local skilled human resource and quality construction material etc.
NLC has successfully completed construction of five projects namely Allama Iqbal Faculty of Arts in Kabul, Nishtar Kidney Centre in Jalalabad, Sir Syed Post Graduate Science Faculty in Nangrahar and Liaqat Ali Khan Engineering Faculty in Mazar-e-Sharif and 200-Bed Jinnah Hospital Kabul is near completion. Besides creating goodwill among Afghans, the projects has been rewarding for the people of the Afghanistan on other counts. NLC employed local skilled Afghan workers. This exposure and experience of local petty contractors and workers to such a high standard of construction and follow up of the specifications provided an excellent base to the locals to enhance their skills and build the capacity in Afghanistan. Those who have worked on these projects under the strict quality control and quality assurance are no doubt the great beneficiary of the projects.
